The sittiation is wel 1 stated by Ihe Inter Ocean in its recent article on the Senators when it saysi "Senator Windom, of Minnesota, and Ferry, of Michigan, have served long enough tohaveachieved prominence and are really importa?it factors iu National affaire. The defeat of either would be a misfortune to the country. The Sen ate is a weak body now coinpared to what it was a few years ago. and to lose those two eminently practical legislatures would be no common loss. Each is the victiin of biiffleĆ¼ ambition poisoned by malice. Two Rejjublioan Congressman aspired to their seats, Dunnel to Windum's and Hubbell to Ferry's. Failing to make headway for themselves, they set about trying to destroy the uun whom they could not supersede. Siich meannesa soraetimes succeeds. A few years ago Michigan Imd an attack of thls species of Hubbell ism, and the resnlt was that the Stalwart Cliaiuller was displaced by the pitiable C'hristiancy, to the subsequent regret of the latter, and for that matter, of the State and the Nation.
