rrolessor JJanielKirkwoorï, of Bloomington, Ind , gives some interesting particular of a brilliant meteor whieh was óbserred in Indiana and Northern Illinois on the evening of tho 3d in.st. ïhe metoor, before entering the atmosphere, was moving m an hyperbola about the san, it motion being retrogrado or in the opposite diroctiou to that of the earth in its orbtt The point of its first appearance was vertical over Grant County, Ind., not far froni Marion, at an elevation of eighty-four miles above the earth's surface. " The direetion of its motion was nearly west, or. uore aceurately. S. 77 W. Wlien lireotly north óf Iiloomington its height vas fifty-two miles. lts path, wlneh )assed almost exactly orer Kokomo, Ind., and Danville, 111., terminated over the southern part of CïhampaigB Jounty, in tho latter State, at an aftiudc of thirty-two miles. No sound bllowed the explosión, and if any meeoric stones reached the earth's suraee they have not yet been found. P. 5. Hunter, of Bloomington, describes he meteor when tirst seen as not largi-r than a star of the seoond magnitude. It rapidly increased in brillianey, and when innnedialiily below the pole star its size was about one-third that of tiie full moon. lts light was such that persons could be readily recognized across the street. A little 3-year old girl, while her mother was trying to get her to sleep, became interesteq in sone outsidé noise. She was told that it was eauseil by m cricket, when she 8#gely observed"Mamma, L think tlmt Ra awïht to be oiled."
