The Allegan Journal and Tribune refers to the cali fora state convention, andsays; "It beliooves the Republicans of Allegan county to seml thirteen stiff back Ferry men" to Hagiuaw. Some time aince the Lansing correspondent of this paper called aue.uiffn 10 nS! raotuiat u was pan 01 uie erry-Keal plot to obtain control of the btate convention which meeis on the 28th inst. The design was thtt it should be done quietly, that a majority should be obtained in it without a struggle. In thls way they inight have succeeded if their plan had not become known. But now, since the purpose is announced and publicly advocated, the probabiütieg of iu auccessaie sinall. Republlcans as delegates will not satlsfy Mr. Ferry or the Allegan ,TI'ey must be Ferry men- and stitt backed" at that. All of which can have but onemeaning, that uereafter there shall be no Republicau party in Michigan, but ouly a Kerry party. We think we knowsoraethinarof thesentimentsofMichJfan RepublicaiiR, and we believe it is only justice to the mass of thein to gay. that whether they favor or are opposed to Mr ferry's election to the senatorship, they are not in favor of following Beal and Don Henderson int building up a Ferry party in the State, or in running the Repubücan party in Mr. Ferry's interest. But now that the purpose isannounced it should be nrnily met.- Post and Tribune There s no doubt in our inind but that the above article was inspirad from the fact which Is generally known, that at the last State Convention for noniinating Regrents, those two intellectual giants, Hon. James F. Joy and ex-Governor Austin Blair were nominated through the direct iofluence of Rice A. Beal. He doea not deny that lie was the man to whoin tliese gentlemen tirst announced their willin:uess to run for the Regency ; nor does he deny tliat he wrote and pald for the message wliich were signed by a nuraber of the delegates and sent to Joy and Blair asking them to allow the use of their names. Mr. Beal is not ashaaied of th!s and we presume the honorable gentlemen are not. He did t because he loved the University and wanted to get two men on the Board whoin corrupt men could neither control nor influence. They were elected and he is well 8atisfied. All lm matters of dlfference with the University aresettled, and with the strong men now on the Board he has no fears of the next State Convention renominating any one of so small a mental calibre as S. S. Walker. At any rate he wel! knows that of those running at large they could not get a weaker man. As totheSupremeCourtJudges, noone ever heard of an instance whereany oneof them failed of getting a renomination if he wished t, whether he was fit for the office or otherwise. Therefore Graves will be renominated if be desires it. In regard to the successor of that weak little pieceof Judicial timber, Isaac Marston, we challenge the Convention to do worse. So we would ad vise theold gentleman who wrote the above article to calm himself. Mr. Beal has no designs on the next State Convention.
