Next Wednesday the Republican State Convention will asscmblein East Sagiaaw to pHt in nomination two candidates for the office of Regent of the üniversity. One of the places there to be filled is now occupied by a gentleman of scholarly tastes, of legal attainments, and of political experience. Moreover as a student be was at the Üniversity, and is well acquainted witb its aftairs. We refer to the Hon. Lyman D. Norris. of Grand Rapids, the first MatricuUite of tlie Uniwrsity. We have In mind 110 man who is botter fitted for this lionorable and responsible position. It is true lie is a Democrat, but for the Regeney that shoiild not be a barrier to keep out true merit. Now, since these things are so, would it not be a gracef ui act for the Republican convention to cast aaide all partizau feeling and nomínate Mr. Norris? We scarcely expect they will do it, but we give the party warning that it a weak man is put up he will be defeated. The proprititor of the Codkier bas had an Intense anxiety to be at Lansing this paet week, but has been prevented from so doing by belng confluea to his house.
