Although the Rppublicnn convention al East Saginaw ditl not adopt the suggestion we offered last week in regard to the noniin.it mi of Mr. Nonií, we :ire pleased to see a recognition of the priuciple we believe should obtain. That i., that there should be on the Board of Regentsseveral graduates of the institutioii. Furtuer tliati thig we deern it wise that some should be recent graduates who more thoroughly will understand the want9 of the studentsby vivldly remembering Iheir own student desires and thoughts. So for these and other reasons we are glad to put at the head of our columns the names: Harry B. Hutchius and Joseph C Jones. Harry Burns Hutchins, Ph, B., after being bom in Xewbury, Vermont, and graduatiutr from the literary class of the XX -C X ï„ loll - ,.-..... lo vi the Uwosso schools in '71-2 ; instructor and assistant professor In history and rhetoric at the U'.iversity from 1872 to 1876; admitted to the bar in '79, since whicli time he lias practieed law at Mount Clemeus. Ue is a son of Mr. C. B. Hutchins, of this city. Mr. Joseph Corustock Jones, M. A., matriculated at the University In 1865; was priueipal of the Iloughton and Tappan schools in Detroit, 1867-'69; graduated with the class of '72; superintendent of the Pontlao schools, 1872-'77, and since that time of the schools at Eist Saginaw. Thus from the nature of his profession he is thoroughly en rapport with all educational matter and will undoubtedly be a valuable aoqitUltion to the Board. This youi.g spirit coming into the life of the body which rules the affkirs of the State institution is an assurance of a broad, liberal and enterprising policy. Wb believe such a spirit will brook no bull-doslng on the part of professors tnreatening to resign. The counsel of old mi'ii is usually wise bilt it is apt to be over canlioiis and even timorous.
