Last week we stated Kr. Martin had beeu agent at this place 17 years - it should have been 21. The new town hall had itg grand openIng- Saturday evening with a concert, 'l'he scenery on the stage is very handsome. DRXTBR. Mrs. N. A. Phelps, of this village, after a short sickness of typhoid pneumonía died Sunday night at the age of 71 years. She was one of the early pioneers in the county, and was always hlguly rcspected for her virtues. At the fuueral, wlilch was held at the M. E. church Tucsday fternoon, the coffin was borne by her fi ve song and a son-in-law, all of whom were jrrown and marned. The services were attended by a large numl.er of friends. From the Ladr. Postraaster Houey startcd for Omaha, Neb., Thursday. The oygter supper at Mrs. Boydcn's, last TuesdHy evenmg, was a sucecss, 160 being present. About f28 was taken in. This was an adjourned supper from the Friday evening previous, that evening being so stormy. MANCHESTER. From the Enterprite. People who ought to know say, the ice was never so thick in the river as lt is this year. There have been 245,580 ponndg of dressed hogs marketed here this season. What other neighboring town can show as good ii record as this. SALINE. We are informed that Mr. F. M. Holland has a class of between thirty and forty scholars in penmanship in Saline, and that he is making such a success of it that another class will be started at the close of this one. We are glad to hear of his good succesa, and hope that the finan cial troubles which have weighed him down for a long time will be lifted from kim. From tht Obterver. Last fall the ladies of hls congregaron gave Kev. D. R. Shier, of the Hudson M, E. church, a new overcoat, and now they clothe him with a fine dress suit, and the Evening Newg says: " But then he's worthy of it all, save that he is a little too roügh in his talk against liquor dealers." TPSILANTI. From the Commercial. After the adjoumment of Congrega, Hon. Mr. Willits proposes to visit the Normal schools of the country. The man who has owned and sold more good horses than any other citizen of this city, is C. L. Yost, over a thousand. From the Sentiotl. A bilí has been introduced into the Legislatura to change the name of the FIrgt Congregational Society of Ypsllanti. to the First Presbyterian Society of Ypsilanti. The Congregational element of the old Presbyterian church having departed, this bilí proposes to harmonize the name of the old corporation with its present character. We are uot aware that it will make any difference with its government. From the Ypiilintivi. Wcdnesday thre were 61 applications at the well for mineral water ; Thursday, at 3, over 60. The record of applications for mineral water shows 27 Monday, 33 Tucsday. and we saw something less than a hundred jugs being fllled Wednesday. Forty-one persons were receivcd to membershlp on probation in the Methodist church, last Sabbath, as the partlal fruit of the revival now in progress.
