Perhaps the Detroit dailies should not be blanied too much for their exultatlou over the fact that Prof. Macleau got a judgmentof $20,000 against their competitor in business, James E. Scripps, the principal owner of the News. They are liumaii and it is terribly humiliating to them tosee this man, Scripps build uphis paper in such a short time so that an advertisement in bis paper is easily worth ten times as much as it is in theirs. The proprietor of the Cocrikr feels the influence of the News. lts cireulation here of nearly 800 hurts our cireulation, but this aoes noi creace in our uearts any leelings of jealousy. We admire his energy and industry, and cannot rejoice if he should be compelled to pay the outrageous judgment of $20,000 for publishing what Judge Chipman said was privileged. We infer irom what we hear that it will be sometime before the judgment is paid, but one thing is certain, if Scripps shall have to pay it, it will only take the News about four montl)9 to earn the money, and if Maclean will only be a little moie extravagant for a time he can spend it as fast as Scripps makes it.
