Chronicle election to-morrow. There will be anotlier Field-day in June. The University Musical society is to give auother concert June 15. Tim Collins and Ben Brodie of '82 werc on the Pair grouuds on Field-day. Hev. Joseph Cook's lecture in University Hall will be Tuesday eveuing, JMay S'.itli. The doublé program of Alpha Nu Friday night fllled the room Vrith visitorsand was well rendered. The University base-ball club will play the Mutuals of Jackson, at the Fair grouuds to-morrow afternoon a 3:30. Ilenry Wade Rogers has accepted the position in the Law school recently tendered him by the Regents and will soon move here. Wm. Cocker, Professor Cocker'sson, has paid Prof. Wiochejl one hundred and twenrv-eight dollars for labor performed in the Doctor's department in the University. AVilliam G. Doty. the Probate Register, will occupy the time of a two week's vacation by taking a trip to Colorado. He starts next Mouday. The freshman class supper comes oft' this evening. Their oftlcers say they are not afraid of being kidnapped this year. The banquet is at the St. James, and about 83 couple will be present. the college papers are discussing the advisability of askiug the faculty to let the work they do on their journals count on their college work. It would not be a bad idea to have it so arranged. At the recent Harris book sale in New York tbc University was fortuuiite enough to obtain arare volume eutitled, "The Bibliography of Shakespeare" by Justin Winsor. It bas heliotype engravings of the title pages of the eai-ly folios. Probably tliere are not over a hundred copies of this volume in the country, and it wasonly obtained after sliarp competition in bidding against other libraries :ind individuals. Chas. F. Dight, an assistent in the medical school, has been called to the university at Baireuth, Syrin, to take the assistant professorship of anatomj, physiology and mieroscopy. lie will go in July. This is a good illustration of tvvo points- one of which we are proiul, the other of which we are not. It shows the widespread fame ototir University which draws the eyes of the incn of letters of all the world tovvards the work and the workers of the institution. On the otlier hand it is an excellent proof of the statement made n our editorial on " Salaries " in our issue a few weeks ago, tlmt the Uuiversity is, to some extent, a trainingschoolformore iberal colleges where better salaries are aul. This is one of many ibrmrr inciden ts to prove the trutb of it. FIELD-DAY. It is generally considered tliat the most uccessful Field-day the studentsof theU. of SI. has had oceuned last Saturday. Iirabile dictu it did not rain, and in the ifternoon over 1,000 were present to witness the contests which were in the main arried on with spirit. The event of the orenoon was the Rugby game f foot-ball etweeu the Universities and a picked leven lrom Detroit. Chase and Hull ould not come, so the eleven, which had een gotten together without practice,conisted of Hutchinson, Buchoz, Mahnn, lunt, Wholan, Campbell, Brodie, Page, Jurnstine, Bennett andj Palmer. At the nd of the two inninga the score was: Jniversities, 4 goals,jl touch down ; Deroits, 1 goal, 1 safety touch downs. Parker. Three-mlle walk- Hartman, 30 min. 15 sec. One of the prettiest exhibltions of the fternoon was with the bicycle by G. W. Lee and G. 8. Hatch. Many difflcult and raceful evolutlons were performed by joth, and it was difflcult to decide which liould be the victor. The broad-sword xercise and the fencing also excited coniderable interest. A feature novel in Field-day exercises was a skipplng-rope xhibitiou by Mr. Niles. Witu a small ope, at first he jumped 107 times in 3G} cconu.'; the next was 1ÜG. times in 38J ecoiids. The day was a day of complete uccess iu point of attendance, in saüsfacory contests and iu a monetary point of iew as well. The association has paid 11 its debts, paid for the ball suits, and is ver a hundred dollars ahead.
