Hepleasantly began by alluding to the present age of thoujiht as the sopbomoiïe, and with a teudeucy to make the courses elective. L'uder the tonner placiui; Paine aud Ingersoll, and with the latter Cnanning, Theodore Parker, Bradlaugh, Bain, Iluxley and Strauss. While dealing with the matei alista of the Huxley and Bain school, he took occasion to pay an elegant tribute to Dr. C'ocker and his phi losophic thought in the " Theistic ception of the World," proiiouucing him fully abreast witli the foremost of philosopbers n England and Germany, In his conceptions of mind and matter. The speaker brought his remarks to a close by givingsomeencouragiug tiguresand prognostications for the future. Mr. Cook is a large portly man who gpeuks witb head and shoulders well thrown back, sending out his voice in a deep base to eyery recess of the room. Strength and vigor mark his utterances and niake them full of meat. EXAMIJiATIONS FOR IIIOHER DKOREES.
