If you have silk goods that need cloaning, try the following from the Country Gentleman: "Take half a pint of cold water, half a teaspoonful of strongest alcohol, and dip the ribbons inlo it several times and draw them through the fingers. ïhen make a lather of white curd soap and lukewarm water, and dash the ribbons up and down in it several times or until all the soiled spots and creases aregone, and rinsc thoroughly in cold water squeezing carefully in the hands. Pull out straight, and snap through your hngers, until nearly dry; then iron unaer brown or white paper with a moderat elyheated Ilat-iron. To set the colorsIf green, add a tablespoonful of vinegar or a little bit of alum to the water it is rinsedin; if pink or blue, four or five drops of oil of vitro) ; if cream white, a sa.lt spoonfnl of cream tarter should be mixed with the soapsuds and rinsinowater. Silk hamlkerchiefs and neck"ties, if unfigured, can be cleaned by the same process."
