In The Last Ditcli. Desperatien of the Aluin haking powder men The agirressivc war waged by the Itoyal Baking Powder Company against all forms of adulteration in baking powder seems to be having a mortuary eflect upon the alum baking powder makers and vendéis this locality. The Royal Company set out upon this crusaiie sereral years ago. It was the first to bring to light the use of aluin for this purpose, and to exposé the infamous tricks and schemcs of the alum concerns, who were endangering the health and lives of the public that more profit might be derived trom their powders. It callcd them by name, denounced them to the public authorities, and succeeded, by the aid of the press and an enlightened public sentiment, in driving them, step by step, flrom the east until they are now al bay in the northwest and on the Pacific slope. All forms of alum baking powdes are now being foisted upon the niaiket in this vicinity. Their use has been universally condemned by medical men as absolutely dangerous to human Hfe. The presence of alum cannot be deterted except by Chemical analysis, and the purchaser is unaware of its use until its'effects have shown themselves in a disordered system. It is because of the continued, vigorous and snccessful pursuit of these dangerous alum baking powders that their proprietors and peddlers are now endeavoring to vent their spite and revenge their disappointment by circulating absurd falsehoods and sham analyses against the Koyal Baking Powder. It won't work. The Eoyal Baking Powder has, during the last quarter of a century, earned a reputntion tbroughout the world which no such dishonorable ane tricky adventurers can pull down or dsstroy. It has stood the test of a long, actual practical use, and has been indorsed by the Governnient chemist, Prof. Mott, and by all the most eminent chemists of the countr}', as In all respects absolutely pure and wholesome, and of the very highest leavening power. It is not possible for the new, experimental, and suspicious baking powders, no matter with what blandishments or inducements they are accompanied, to supplant it in the public favor. ______ Mr. John Keek hus gone east to New York, Philadt-lphia and Boston, and while absent will pinchase a large stock of Carpeta, Mats and Kugs, which line of froods he will bereaftei keei in connection with his Fornitura store at Nos. 58 and 00 Main Street.
