The ladies ol St. Thomas church, charged with.the reception of the sisters and the orphan childrcn under their care, to express their sincere thanks to all who contributed to the comfort and entertainment of these little ones. Especial mention is due to Mis. Tenbrook, who kindly tendered the use of her house and grounds on the occasion; also to the various hack and bus unes of our city, who generously furnislieü the means of conveyance to and from the grounds. . Asad accident oecurred the 17ih inst. on the Ypsilanti brancli of the Lake Shore road near Kast Mancheeter. A deaf mute by the name of joseph McCollum, some seventy-eight years of age, while waiking on the railroad track on liis way home was struckby a freight train. Four libs were broken, his hip badly crnshed, and niany bruises were received about the face and body. He lived about two hours suffering intensely. The coroner's jury exonerated the coinpany from all blanie. Among the excursiouists last Friday Miss Kitsou met with an injury wliich might have proved quite serious had the train been in rapid motion. Itbeemsthat as the train was nearing Detroit and moving aomewhat slowly, Miss Kitson, standing on the platform of one of the coaches, leaned out beyond the car and received a heavy blow on the head from some object passed. While her enjoyment of the trip was somewhat diminished by the accident, she escaped very fortunately, and was soon herself again with an additional bump. Tbose student who are takine the High School niusic course are expected to resume their musical studies next week. The lessons wbich will be given up to the opening of the regular fall term of the school of music are gratis. The school has adoptcd some new plans and prices which bring the tuition within the reach of all. Some of the teachers will give one lesson per week if any so desire it. It is to be understood, however, that the teachers do not look with favor upon such a plan of study, but firmly believe the results are not satisfactory, and henee all studentsare strongly urgcd to take at least two lessons per week, the cost of which need bc and is no more. At various times the Toledo railroad company at this place have had to suffer losses in consequence of the doings of thoughtless or mischievous boys, and for the latest misdemeanor of such the company propose to seek redress and carrj a warniog. Last Sunday nfternoon a nnmber of boys uncoupled tliree cars loaded with steel rail and with brakrs let off the cars started toward the M. O. R. EL track. If the intention of the boys was to stop the cars aftcr running a short distance, they soon found themselves uiinble to do so, and the cars rushed on resultingin a wreek which did damnge to the extent of $100. One engine was busy all day, and two engints were used some of the time, in clearing ttie track. The regular trains were blockailed for quite a number of hours on Monday. Tiie agent, Mr. rhilli ps, carefully investigated the matter and liad a warrant issued for elght of the boys. Five of these were bronght before Justice Brennan on Monday. As the ofticers had been unuble to rind two of the boys the trial was postponed until next Monday. The penalty is nota slight one if the boys ure found guilty, and this should serve as a timely warning to all othvrs who are imilavly disposed.
