The naraes of ome unworthy ones raay have crept into nis roll of honor, and in those cases it is or the interest of all to see that they are removed and that the governuieut be not defrauded in this noble work. On account of lils superior attainmente, and liis gifts as a uiatheniatician he was warmly recommended to the Government to form a portion of the staff of scentists for Lieut. Greeley's expedition. There is now felt a great deal of anxiety here regarding bina, for he is a Kalamazoo boy boni and bred. His father was the foiuider of the extensive dry goods house here which, although he died many years ago, is still conducted in his name. His mother, sisters, and brother are here alsr. When he left his home he promised his mother that she should hear from him in August of this year, but the recent occurrences will prevent that. Edward was a true specimen of young manhood, a perfect athlete so far as physical development goes. and capable of more than ordinary privations and of fultilling all the requirements to make an arduous and hazardous voyage. Every one here, both for the younsT man's sake as well as or his respected family and kindred, hope that he may find a safe and speedy issue out of his present dangers and difticulties."
