The Indians told him they c-une down it a ditance of 1,500 milos to meet f ur traders, and that the river went up bigher tlian that. Having no time to go further Stoney returned It is his opinión, as stated ov those on the Convin from whom tbis nformation has boon obtained, that the discoverv of this river accounts for the largo anïount of rtoating timber in the Arotic, popularly supposed to com down the Yukon. The Indians stated that the river i some places was twenty miles wide. I is within the Arotic Circle, but in Au gust, when Stoney was there, lie foun iflowers and vegetation, not hitlu'rt discovered in so high a latitude. Ho ha forwarded his report to the secretary o the navy and hopes to be permitted to come back and continue the exploration.
