Postmaster Knowlton has tunde up liis monthiy report of sales and as the inontli of October was the flrst one under the postal reductions the figures nre of interest in coniparison with those of October 1S82. Then there were 35 910 th ree-cent stamps sold amounting to f 1,077.30. The total amount for all stamps was $1,002.13, and for envelopes $390.68. This last October the two cent stamps were 55,084 in number and amounted to $1,113.08. The total for stamps was $1,552.10, and trom envelopes $690v7G. This ia scarcely a fair testasits beiug the flrst nioiith of the new stamps, every one had to lay in a stock of tliem. Yet the sales over the country ndicate that the reverme the governnient receives from stamps will not be materially decreased because of the reduction. But on the contrary, it ought to be increased.
