Editor Courier : I see in your paper of October 2Gth, that ex-supervisor Wynkup carries the erroneous idea that the present Board of Supervisors do not comply with the law. Without making any apology I will try to answer his critical questions by taking the buil right by the horns, instead of comrnencing at the tail end. The first is that the Supervisors do not comply with the law in selecting the jurors, and that the Supervisor takes all the responsibility himself. As for as Ann Arbor township is concerned the Clerkand myself acted jointly in selecting our jurors, in fact the Clerk had a list of jurors made out when he came to my office for my approval ; in looking over the list I saw he had at least three over sixty years old, which I objected to on account of their age, according to law, but was told Judge Joslyn said the law does not prevent a man sitting as juror. It simply rneans you can not compel a man to sit as juror, henee our aged jurors, and they are good ones too. Next question asked by Mr. Wynkup was, how many can answer the question as to returning jurors that had asked for it ? I, for one, can say I refused to return jurors that had askcd to sit as such. As to asking for the office as Supervisor I must say in sincerity I never asked for the office, and believe it ought to be left discretionally with the voters to select and elect whomsoever they chose. Now as to selecting our favorites for jurymen, we don,t do as you used to. I beg your pardon if 1 am wrong in this assertion. We select men of good sound judgment who dare to do right. Some of thera voted against us, but they are good jurors all the same. As to the perdiem, some was paid jack into the county treasury. As to the Board of Supervisors of Washtenaw county I can only give you my opiniĆ³n. We do not claim to be infallible, but I will say thismuch (leave me out if you please) as an eye-witness, for the sake of those that tnow nothing about the doings of the Board of Supervisors, or not rauch. They are as honorable, conscientious, hard vorking body of men as you can find, with he exception of a few. I would think still more of them if they would have lowered Ann Arbor township $85'000 more on the equalization, which, if I understand the meaniugof equalization in all justice and fiiirness we ought to have at least, il' not more, than the aboveabatement.
