The new school building in the sixth ward of tufó city will soon be ready for use. A visit to it this week showeil us (me of the most neatl y construeted buildings lor a scliuol of this grade it has been our privilege to see. üue is possibly surprisetl in floding but four school rooms in wliat seeins to be trom the outside a building larjre enough to contain more rooms. It is evident, however, that the bailding is eonstructed with a view to conveuience, and not for the purpose of seeinjr how many rooms can be got out of a given amouut of spnce. In every oue of the four rooms the doublé desks are so placed that the light comes trom the left through five large windows. There are fine blackboards in eaeh room, and well-arranged apparatus lor heating and ventllating. Toaid in carryinr out an exceptionally complete system of ventilatiou and heating there is a lireplace with neat mantel in every room. The building is principally heated by gteam conducted through coilg of pipe attaclied to the wainscoting just below the otitside windows of each room. The main entrances to the building on the north side aretwoin number, leading to a roomy hall, from which, at each end, there are widestainvnysto the hall above. Gonvenient cloak rooms are provided ibove and below. The basement, we tiike it, is arranged for the use of a famliy having charge of the building1. The uorthwest corner of the building has a tower, and the general outside appearance is oí a modern and quite unique style of arcliitccture, yet withal pleasIng. The wainscoting and finish In general throughout the building is of piue, the Stair-work, however, being in oak. lt may be of interest to know that Prof. Payne, of the University, requested bis classes in teaching to visit the building last Saturday. General pleasure was expressed with the structure as a whole. One objection was, however, ott'ered to the desks - that they are doublé, lt, was thought they might better be single, even at an increased expense, the advantages gained thereby being msidered not a few. It only remaius for us to aild that in Tappan School, costing about $11,000, oit zens may congratúlate theniselves on haviiig one (.f the linest lower-grade scliool buildings in the State.
