Friday ïnorning the state carne into possession of the Universïty Library building on the Campus. The night before, the buildius coiumittee of the Regents, Messrs Shearer and Grosvenor with Pres. Angelí and Mr. dim Ie, the superintendeatof the building, met Mr. Appleyard and carne to a setlleinent with hiin wherebj' he was paiil in full and formally delivered over the building. The total .imount pald the contractor was $09,187,32. Some $10,000 additional has been paid other parties and the reuiaining thousand will be expended in gradiug up, laying down concrete walks, etc. The work on the building, both inside and outside has been perfectly satisfaetory in fact the inside work is better than the speciflcations called for. lt is believed that there have been no jobs In its construction, and the state bas been fortúnate not only in getting a contractor who lias taken pride in his work, by also In havinjï a superintendent of the building, both efficiënt and faithful, and also a building eommittee with previous expenses. It will not be long in the accomplishing and when it is completed the advantages of the students will be greatly extended in the addlUonal facilities for study and research. For several weeks past the lower classes in tlie Univei'sity and thentheir adininng Imitators in the High School have taken turcis in inaking niht hideous, to their owu intense gratilicatiou, and the lio leas aunoyauce of all law-abiding citizens. One class gets toffether anü heaves some meuiber of the other class over a picket feuce ; tlien the other class gets together and ueaves some inember of tlie first class over, teverybody rneantime bowling and hooVuig like a wild Modoc. By these means each class proves its own superiority over the other, and the suprenie idiocy of both. But while tiie college boys are able to heave a man over gracefully without tearing either his clotlies ofl' hi back or the pickets off the ience, tlie snbs are as cluiasy as cattle, and generally manage to do both. The college boys settled their questiou some time ago, and it is devoutly to be hoped that the hitherto futile eflbrts of Superintendent Perry to induce the little boys in thu High School to follow their example and close up the year's campaign may ere long be crowned with success.
