W. W. Whedon is out of the city today. Dr. Charles Ultes, of Chelsca, was in the city Momlay. Mrs. Kd. Quiuan is visiting at her home in Midland, Mich. A. F. Knapp, of Adrián, spent Saturday and Sunday in the city, the guest of Wm. Payne and D. K. Cochrane. Mrs. Robeson, of Port Huron, is visiting lier brother, Geo. L. Moore and family, and other relatires in the city. Mrs. Sleele, Fifth street, in company with Miss Guppy, lit '86, leares for California Monday of commencement week. Miss Celle, sister of Mrs. Prof. Morris, arrived from New York the latter part of ' last week to spend Commencement in the ' city. ' Mrs. F. E. McCollum, of Leadville, ' Col., and Mrs. II. H. Ripley, of Galveston, Tex., are here visiting their párente, Mrs. and Mr. N. Arksey. Judge Cheever and wife returned from Texas last week. Miss Noble who accompanied them soutb, remains uutil fall. Her bealtli is much mproved. Missès Lizzie Binder and Pauline Scbmid left Monday night for Chicago and Couucil BI11S3 for a three months' visit with relatives and friends. Mrs. L. H. Stone, of Detroit, spent a lew tlays in the city last week, returning Saturday. Mrs. Stone is the contributor ol' Every Saturday's " Club Talks." Rev. Neuman, accompanied by Rev. Robertus, of Chelsea, and Rev. Haering, of Francisco, left Monday to attend the annual district synod at Canal Dover, O. Mrs. Grissen, Jefterson street, leaves to-day for St. Paul, Minnesota, to pay a visit to a son and sister living there. She may possibly decide to make St. Paul hei1 permanent home. A. A . Terry took advantage of the reduced rates to Chicago last week to visit a sister, Mis. Samuel T. HUI, of Clinton Junction, Wis. He returned Saturday night and reports a splendid visit Geo. Osius, who left for a business trip to Europe March lstlast, returned Thursday afternoon last. Most of his time was spent in Germany, but be paid a visit to Paris and other large cities during his stay. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Warner, with son and daughter, arrived at A. L. Noble's Monday evening for a short visit. They leave to-day for their home in New York cit5', where Mr. Warner lias been deputy collector of customs for some time. E. B. Abel left yesterday evening to attend the funeral of his father, at Fultonvllle, N. Y. Mr. Abel received news by telegram of liis father's death, yesterday afternoon, though a postal which carne to hand at noon announced him better. The funeral is to be held to-morrow, we believe. Mr. Abel was seventy-three years of age. Eev. Kussell B. Pope, now pastor at Ann Arbor, Michigan, was made doctor in diviDity by Baldwin university, Berea, Ohio, June i. The deseryed honor comes all the more gracefully and gratefully from the Institution from which Dr. Pope graduated some years ago, and in which he has served as professor of ancient languages. This bit of an item will please very many people amazingly.-
