There are a few who have been good KepubHcans In the past, but tliey have grown weary u well doiug, and now perhaps because the nominee of the party vas not their íirst choice, tliey profesa ndifference oreve opposition. In regard to that there is one thing that must be remembered. That is, that should tlie Oemocrats once come into power tlicy could so entrencli the:nselves in their control of the governmcnt as to maUe it impossible for many ycars to rout tliem. The prospects for civil service reform, for the protection of American industries, for the purity of the ballot box, for the security of human life in the South, for suppression of polyganiy and therestraint of liquor trafBe, for au economical and honest management of our ünances, for the wise devclopment of our resources and the best care of our cducntional iustitutions - all would be discouraged and set back for many years if uuder tlie Democratie control. Business men do not want a general upheaval such as would demoralize the affuirs of the country upon the accession to power of a liungry and thirsty horde whose motto is : "To the Victors belong tlie Spoils.'' Tlie spoils indeed are tempting and in that ratio they will be fought for desperately. So they must be opposed manfully. Ko one must sulk in his tent, and good llepublicans and lovers of their country cannot afford even to be apathetie. A strong fight will win.
