Next week s the convention to elect county delegates for the Oongressional Convention. Aa is preƫminently desirable, tliere seems to be no otlier wish than one for harmony. The fiiends of Mr. E. 1 Allen, of Ypsilanti, have wanted lilm to run, but they have not desired to push liim if anywhcre there should exist a strong feeling ngainst him. Ilowever, the popularity of a man will al ways briny him to ttas front sooner or later, and there seems to be a general wish among tlie people of the county that Washtenaw sliall be solid for Capt. Allen. This is especially dtsirable for many reasons. For, not only is he a strong, able and well Meed man- one of the flrst requisites for a candidate- but the nomination s now narticularjy due to this coimty. During the fourteen years we have been in this district Lenawee bas bad F. C. Boaman ; Hillsdale, Ilenry Waldron ; and Monroe, Edwla Willits. Washtenaw liaa had none. So the time is now ripe for a congressman from otir midst. The last election showed us we must ngiit bard to win this one, but wc now have the prestige of a presidential election with a strong ticket. Moreover, tlie Captain' popularlty would insure him a large (najority. He has been at all times snch a steadfast exponent of Uepublican principies and has never wavered in loyalty, so no other man than he and no other place than Washtenaw can show sucli a claim for the offloe.
