On Mondav erenlng the frieuda and suporters of the successful ticket n the school board eleetiou resolved to celébrate the victory they gained in a proper and fitting marnier. Consequently they procured the services of the Aun Albor city band, and proceeded to serenade the various successful candidatos. A ero wil of between 300 and -100 peoplegathered together and with the band at their head marched to the residence of J. T. Jacobs. Joe had got wind of the coming evenr, and they fouiid the house illunnnated trom cellar to garret. After a well reudered piece or two by the musicians, the audience called upon Mr. Jacobs for a speech. This was taking the advantage of a person somewhat, but Mr. Jacobs was equal to the occasion, and coming forward he said in substance: Gkstxemen and Fellow Citizkns.- I tlumk you for Mie demonstratlou, stlU I am uot so vuin as to take all of the honor ot the result of this day's work to myseJl'. It only goes to show that the people of Ann Arbor stlll have coufldence in the school board as it lias been conslituted for the past three years, uotwitlistaudiug tlie slanderous circular that was scattered broadcast a day or so ago. I siucerely thank the brave ladies who turned out to-day to do justice to the "old ticket.1' My wife is away iu Ohlo, and 1 cannot serve you with retïeshmeuts as 1 would like to, but instead, as a slightappreciation of wtiat you have done for me to-day, l wlll dónate SO bushels of potatoes to the Ladies' (Jharitable Union, to be iven to the ueeily tbl winter. The result shows that notwlthstanding the injurious and contemptl le papers that have been circulated to damage the board and lts members.that such landers have had no effect. The Dr. welcomed thcm cordially, and in i tance spoke as follows : (iENTLEMES and Friends :- This demontration iw a surprise to me, but it is one of he kind tbat people are apt to appreciate, and I sincerely thank you for such an expression of your good will. I pledge you my pord that the confidence of the people this day manifested in the school board shall not prove to be misplaced, and that you will all be satisQed wit h lts adrainlstration of the fTairs of the district. It is needless to again ay that I leel gratefnl toyou all for the reult of the day's labor. After which both Messrs. Jacobs and Gruner, who hid met liere, were again called out, and agaiu tlianked the people tor the great compliment paid them.
