The ilemocrats hope to carry tliis campaign by wholesale and damnable falsehoods. They go froni one lie to another so rapidly that the lightning calculator would have his powers taxed to keep an account of them. They think that by exercising their fertUe imagination that they can keep the people's attention called away from the lecherous practices and rowdy tendencies of their prcsidential candidate. The latest falsehood that lias come ander our notice is the paragraph whioh several of the oppositiou press keep standing at the head of their editorial columns, purportingto have been written by Sena ator Geo. F. Edmunds, of Vennont. That gentleman being asked rcspecting it replied as follows : Burlington, Vt., Sopt. 18. Dear Sik,- I have yours of the 15th. I nu sure that I never wrote or said that the gentlemen you refer to acts as the attorney for Jay Gould, for I ani not conscious of liavinir thou-rht so.
