Prof. Frothingham preitded, and many of our distingushed oitizi-ns acted as vice presidenta. Senator Palmer occupied a half hour or so in discussing economie quettlong, prefadog li's remarks wilh a kind allusion to his school days at Ann Arbor, and drawing a word picture of the city and cam'ptM as it still remains in lils ralnd, but not at all faniilliar to the stilden ta of to-day. The Hon. E. P. Allen was next Introduced and for nearly two lioms held tbe attention of liis andience in a manner not equaled by any speaker that has addressed an Ann Arbor audience this year. Ilis argument wcre so fair, the pointa made so plaln, and the conclusions drawn so conviuciiig that those present were really aroused to enthuslasra over one of the dryest suiijects a speaker can touch opon : tbe tarlff and the ttnancea of thegovernmant. We doubt if this subject has ever been handled in a better, more able or more convindng manner, even by those who havo made politica! economy tlieir special etndy.
