The committee to whom wüs referred the communication of Jiulge Joslyn, reported (bat they found the jail building in a dilapidated oondltlon, r.nd tbat it is growing woree every year, and that it is unsafe and unflt for the conflnement of prlsoners. Also that ShwiffWallace bad done his ful] duty i" keeping the building clean nnd in good sanitaiy condltlon as possible, but they could not ask the judgeofthis circuit to desígnate soine otlier jail for the confíucment of prisoners of W'ashtcnaw county, under the provlsions of sec. 8945 of Howell's annotated statutes, believiug the expense WOUld be too great, but thought that a ncw jail ought to be built at once. Report adopted. A committee consisting of Supervisors S. Gregory, Feldkamp and Dausingburg wasappointed to in vestigate charges ngainst the management of the county house. The county superintendeuts of tlie poor presented their annual report showing tliat $10,535.57 had been recelved from all sources, and $7,215,50 expended, leaving balance on hand of' $1,198. 10. There isdue from towns and cities for takiug care of their poor $2,088.35. Valuo of f.irm and buildings estimnted at $25,000. Products of the farm for past year, 2,233.50. Farm stock, $1,421.50. Implernents on hand, $4,716. Jvumber of paupers rnaintained,188; males, 135; females, 50. Average numbcr of inmutes, 78; under 16 years old, 13; idiots, 9; blind, 3; mutes, 3. Divided into nationalities the 188 inaintained were as follows : Irish 40, Germans 28, Engllgh 11, Scotch and Canadians each 5, negroes 7, Swiss 2, Swedea and Italians 1 each. On motion of Mr. O'Hearn the committee on public buildings was authorized to inake all necessary repairs and allow bilis for material, labor, etc., and clerk autüorized to draw orders for same. Of Mr. Case that same committee be requested to take inventory before Jan. lst, 1885, of all property belonging to county in possession of eacli county oflicer, and take each ollicer's receipt for the same, and require said officers to account for the same to their successors, and report said inventory to the board before the January session. A county superintendent of the poor was theu elected, Daniel B. Green receiving 13 votes to 12 for E. M. Spencer, and being declared elected. The committe appointed to investígate charges of dishonesty and nialtreatment of inmates at county poor house, reported that in their opinión all such charges were baseless, and that they found I erything in excellent condition. Thos. J. Sullivan was elected jail physician for ensuing year. On motion of 51r. Braun, the county superintendent of poor elected by this board was requested to give Londs in the sum of $8,000. On motion of Mr. Graves the county superintendents of poor were instructed not to incur any expense in caring for cases sentto the hospitalsof the Michigan University. Friday, Oct. S,th. This being the last day of the regular session allo wed by law, it was resolved to hold an adjourned session, commencing Monday, Oct. 27th. The committee to whom was referred the canvass of votes on jail bonds, reported, showing that there were 1,937 votes cast for, and 3.G0G against. The county clerk wasanthorized to pay off supervisors for regular session; the average amount puid each supervisor being about $38. E. A. Nordman, county dniin commlssioner, presented bis annual report, A vote was then taken upon the election of a new county drain commissioner as follows: Chas. H. Groenman, of Augusta, received 12 votes; T. L. Buck, 4 votes. No person having received a majority of all the supervisors, no election was effected, and the matter was laid upon the table. Mimdny, Oct. 27tJi. Special session convened at 10:80 o'clock, a. m. Committee on public buildings reported. No repairs needed at county arm, but more hospital room was needed, especially for cases of certain loathsome diseases, and the sum of $300, m addition to the sum of $400apprnpriated liist year, was recommended to build and equip a hospital. Additional barn room was also needed for protecliou of crops grown upon the farm, but no appropriation was recommended. In respect to county ja!] the furmer report! made upon the subject were all fully eoncurred in, that the building is and would be a continual disgrace to the county as long as it was permitted to stand, it was also recommended that this board take ttOtlon in reference to securing a site for n new jail, for the erection of a new building thereon at a cost not to exceed $20,000.
