Hastinqs, Adams Co., Nebraska, 1 November 3U, 184. ƒ Editor Courikr: Having heard about he bigcorn grown in Washtenawcounty bil year, I will teil you about our corn. Thanksglving Day I weighed 40 ears of 'ellow dent corn, which weighed 55 ounds, and it was all I could pile on a Mishel basket. This was huskcd since Nov. 12th. This corn was raised by Warren Waldron, forraerl y of Webster townhip. He has 38 acres that will average 00 bushels to the acre. In fourteen days ! have husked and cribbed 1.200 bushels; hat's more than I could do in Michigan n 30 days. It is strange how we do so nuch out here, but we do it nevertheless. l'lie Nebraska farmer can scoop the Michgan farmer on anything but wheat, and then he can grow enough more acres to make the difference in the yield. I never saw as nice potatoes, beets, and all kinds of vegetables as I have seen grown here this season. The display of fruit growu n Adams county, at the county fair held n Hastings, equaled the fruit grown in Northern Michigan: It is amusing to lear people trom the east talk when they ;et out here and 6ee for themselves. Men ire astonisbed to find tame grasses growng as thrifty as In any eastern state. Dlover and timothy never kill out, but get thicker evcry year. Mr. Waldron :ut a piece of clover and timothy twice .his year and both times it was very heavy. There is no question but what will trow in Michigan will grow in Nebraska. F'armi within one mile of Ilattings have gold as high as f G5 and acre. About a dozen years ago a young man from the ;own of Webster located a quarter see,ion of land where now stands the beautiful city of Hastings. But for fear his irl would get tired of waiting, he let his isnd go back to the government and re;urned to Webster. If he had clung to this Nebraska land, he would have been an independent man to day. I guess I liave said about enough. If any one wants to know any more about Nebraska, let them come out and see, as I did. Yours respectfully,
