Ann AnBOR, Feb'y 27, 188.1. To the Tax Payers of Wushtenaw Counli : TIn; impression wems to provail very generally in tbc county that tho Board of Supervisor at their January seeslon ordcred the old j uil to ba repairef. innted of a now one to be constructed. The following resolution which was uiiiinluiously adopted at that meeting fully covers tho actton of the Board: Retolved. That a building coramlttee conslstlngof three member be elected by thl board who shall proceed Immedlately In case the electora of Washtenaw county símil vote fora loan of IS,000, to adopt such plana and speclflcations for a mwjail as they may deem sulted to the bost Interest of the county, provided that the coat of said Jall shall notexoeed f 12,000, and sald comralttoo slmJl have power, and ar hereby authorlzed to advertlze for, and recelved and accept ealed proposals for building sald Jall, and In all thlnga pcrtalnine thereto, act for and In behair of the Board of Supervisors of Washtenaw County. The committeo elected n accoidance with the above resolution held a meeting thls 27th day of February, 1885, and decided to erect a new jail, provided that the moiioy was voted for that purpose at the coming spring election. The old J til can no longer be made to serve the wants or meet the demanda of the county. It s unsafe, unhealtliy and totally unlit for further use without exjxnsive repairs bcing made. Jucíghifí from plans submitted, we believe there can be erected with the midi of $12,000 in addltiou to the old jail property, a better jail than the one built in Pontiac last year at a total cost of $14,000. Posüibly the present site could be exchanged for one more sattefactory; and as labor and material are cheaper than they may be again for j-ear to come, it is certainly a matter of cconomy to build the coming sumuier. Unlcss a new jail is erected the Circuit Judge will order all prisoners taken to some other county for safe-keeping, which will largely ncrease the expense to tho county. Is it not then for the interest of the tax-payer in the county to vote for the propofition to raise the amoutit named by the Board ol Supervisor for the immediate erection of a new iaü.
