Editor Codrikr:- I notlce by the last report of the city marshal that the sum of (163.58 was expended for the city poor during the month of May! Think of It. duiing the month of May! The writer of this has been a resident of the city for inany years, butnever remeiubers to have seen such a record before. Take the 5th ward, of which I am a resident. The expenditure was $32 99. Now, I know that tbere are not more than one or two in the ward who oujcht to receive any aid at all. There are several lazy whelps who will not work as long as their families will be su pported by the city. If these families must be suppoited, support them, but seml the lazy loafers up to the house of correction as vagrants.
