Prof. Pettee is being favorably mentioued for the presidency of the whool of mines, recently located at Houghton, in tlie upper península. According to the Hillsdnle Standard Dr. Walter II. Sawyer, formerly surgeon in tlie Homeopathie hospital, has located in that dty permanently. There are but two dental schools in America from which a diploma will entitle the hokler to practice In Europe, and Ann Arbor possesaes one of them. Miss Nellie Borland, lit. class of '85, has been elected to the chalr of Higher Mathematica and Latln, in the Oxford Female College, Oxford, Ohio, and hus accepted the same. The Sunday News had a bit of history in ts last issue: "A llttle north of Ste. Aune's, on the west side of Bates, near Ongress, was the flrst building a very plain affair of 24 by 50 feet, occupied by the univei-sity of Michigan in 1817, and for i few years thereafter." The new floor in the main Iia.Il of the main building is a fine one. It is laid over the old floor, of three inch hard maple, with a strip about two feet wide in the centre running the length of the hall, while the sides are laid diagonally. It is to be oiled, and will be " as slick as grease" when completed.
