A special meeting of the council was held at the council chamber Monday evening, by cali of the Mayor. Upon assembling Mayor Kapp annouiiced as one of the object of the meeting to takc some suitable action relative to the death of Gen. Grant, and asked for an expression of opinión as to wliat action would be best. Remarks were made by Aids. Martin, Henderson, Biggs, Lawrence, City Attorney Kinne, et. al. Recorder Pond ofi'ered the following: Resolved, That the Mayor be requested to issue a proclaraalion, calllug a meeting of the clllzens of Aun Arbor upon a sultable date to be flxed by hlm. to make such arrangements as mlght be deemed wle and proper for holding a memorial service on the day of Oen. Orant's funeral. Which was unanimously adopted. The question of appointing a nunibcr of special policeineu to act during the present raid of burglars about the city was then bronght up by Mayor Kapp, but action upon the same was deferred until the next meeting. Aid. Poland offered the following re3Olution. Resolved, That a pollceman be appolnted In the -itli ward, whoso iluty uhall lnclude the premlses In and about the Michigan Central depot; a'8o the llghttng of the street lamps; wltli tUe regular pollceinan's salary. Aid. Lawrence moved as an kmeodthat the City Marshal bedirected to detail one of the regular policemen for lejrice in and about the Michigan Central depor. After a lengthy discussion the ameudment was adopted. Aid. Henderson offered the following resolutiou: Resolved, That the City Marshal be dlrected toenforce the ortllnance relutlve to keeplnic people off the lawu of the court house square. Which was adopted. In comiection with the above, City Marshall Fall cxplained to the council that he had attempted early in the season to keep people off the grass on the court house square, but that he met with opposition from the county officials who claiined that he had no jurisdiction over the premises, and when he attempted to keep people off some of them would put themselvcs in his way, and thus set at defiunre his authority. He stated that he was wllling and ready to enforce the ordiuance providing the county officials would co-operate with hint instead of setting a bad example for others to follow. The matter of relayinji the stone walk about the court house square was Called up, and Aid. Lawrence offered the followiDg : Resolvttt, That the ('hiilrman of the Sldewalk Commlttec be dlrected toconferwlth Mr. Eisele or some other competent person lu relatlon to relaylng the Btone walk surrouudlng the court house square, with power to act. The same was adopted. City Attorney Kinne presented "an ordinance relative to the prevention of lires," establishlng lire limlts, disullowing wooden structuren, providiug penalties, etc, etc. Ou motion of Aid. Lawrence the same was adoptad and ordered printed for :i pciiod of two weeks In the Ann Arbor Di'iuocrat. Aid. Hiscock stated that the inembers of the Board of Health had presented bilis for their service amounting to over $200, and askcd what action the finalice commitlee should take upon the s;iiiií. He further stated that the salary of the members of the board had been lixed by the couucil at $25 per year each. A1U. Ware offered the following: Rmolved, That each member of the Hoard of Heallh be allowed SÍ5 per year for hls sorviceH, the sulary stabllshod by a former resol utlou of the council. Adopted.
