The Hindoos also employed ages in the computation of time, and these, too, dividod into periods of different durations. The present age is the kali yuga, or the ago of iron; 4,985 years of it have already passed, but its total duration is .supposed to be 432,000 years. The succession of the ages, counting back, is given as follows: Fourth age - Kali yuga, age of iron, orof woe (the present age), to be of 432,000 years. Third ago- Dvapara yuga, 804,000 years. Second age- Trela yuga, or age of gil ver, 1.296,000 years. First age - Krita yuga, age of golil, or of innoconce, 1,728,000 years. These four ages fonn the maha iura, or great age, of 4,320,000 years. ' The length of a patriarchate is seventy-ono maha yugas, or 306,720,000 years. to which is addod a twilight perlod of 1,728,000 years. making in all 808,448,000 years. Fourteen of these patriarchates, augmonted by a dawn of 1,728,000 years, gires 4,880.000.000 j'ears. which forra a kalpa, or the ceon of the Hindoo chronology. A kalpa la only a day in the life of Hrahma, whose nights are also of the saie duration. Now, Brahraa lives a hundred years of the three hundred and sixty days and three bumlred and sixty nights. The present poch is the kali yuqa, of the twunty-seventh gminl age of the soventh patriarohalo of the first peon of the socond half of the lift! of Brahma, who is now in his LM,521,972,848.98.ith spring.
