The adjourned regular meeting of the council, which, by the way, was the last meeting of the oltl council of 1886, wüs held Fridaj evenlng last, with every seat filled. Hendcrsom moved that the Board of Healtli be allowed the usual compenaation of $25.00 per year. Which was carried. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS. The Recorder read Ja cominunicatlon from M. H. Brennan, dated at Devil's Lake, Dakota, resigning the oftlce of Justice of the Peace, of the city of Ann Arbor. Which resignation was accepted. Also a communication from A. W. Hamiiton, Superintendent of the Ann Arbor Water Co., In iuquiry to the resolutiou of the council, stating that the total cost of the water works to date was $190,000, which auiount had been paid to Messrs. Gooduue & Birnie, of Sprlngtield, Mass., in first mortgage bonds. The company having a surplus of $10,008 which it proposed to expend in new inain8, service pipe, connections, and policial expenses, when tlie total cost of the works will be $200,000. The Recorder then read a record of the meeting of tax-payeis, whicli was held at Fircmau's Hall on the lVth day of M.irch, pursuant to cali of the Mayor and Recorder, to vote upon a proposition to give $5,000 toward bridging Detroit or l'outiac street crossing, and the saine was ordered spread upon the records. REPORTS OF OFFICERS. The regular monthly report of City Treasurer Watts was read and ordered led. On hand at last report, $17,218.89; received during the month, $ 24(5.04 ; disbursed, f 1,483.77; leuving on hand $15,981.16. The atmual report of City Treasurer Watts was also received and ordered filed, showing receipts amounting to $42.543.45; disbureements, $26,562.29; leaving balance of $15,981.16. In reference to the votes cast for Benj. J. Conriid aml Mfctael J. Martin for justice of the peace to MU vacancy cau?ed by M. H. Brennan's removal, Aid. By Aid. Lawrence: Reêolved, That we hold in high appreciatïon the laithful and efficiënt services tliat has been performed by the Mayor, rr. John Kapp, during the last year, and the hearty i iiauks of thls council are lendered tohlm therefore, and tor the linparltal manner in which he has preslded over lts dellberations. Which motion was put by the Recorder and responded to by a rising vote, to which the Mayor responded in u few words full of faeling. By Aid. lliscock: Resolved, That the City Recorder be instructed to procure a gold dollar, have the same suitably inscrlbed, and present the same to Hls Honor, Mayor Kapp, for hls services the past year. ( Whicli was carried unanimously. Aid. He was somewhat embarrassed, in liis ncw posltion, but was lotli to acknowledge t even to liimseif. As thls was a special nieetin, Mayor Kobiron anrjoupced tliat be would deliver his inaugural at the next regular meeting of the council, circumstance? lmvintr prevented its preparauOB for that eventng. He also announced that this belng a special meeting they wou ld imraediately proeeed to the electiou of city officcrs. Aid. Allmendinger moved that the city oflicers be elected in the following order: City marshal, city treasurur, city attorney. Carried. The following is the result of the ballots for city marshal : Fred Sipley Kaving reccived a mujotity of all the vote9 cast for city marshal, was declared elected. The next ollicer balloted for was city treasurcr, witli the following result : Albert Sorg liaving received a raajority of all the votes cast, was declared elecU'd : For City Attorney E. D. Klnne receivcd 10 votes and A. J. Sawyer 4 votes, and Mr. Kinne was declared elected. A1U. Steere brought up the matter of the election of Benj. J. Conrad, as Jugtice of the peace, at the recent election, to Uil vaoancy chus(1 by M. H. Conrad for Justlce of peace to 1111 vacancy caused by the removal of M. 11. Brennan. Aid. Kearns moved that tho matter be laid upon the table until the city attorncy should reader h8 opinión. Carried. Aid. Kearns moved that the council proceed to choose a uew board of healtb, city pliysician and city engineer. Carried. The Kecorder moved that the board of health consist of three members instead of five for the comming year, which was agreed to, and the following members chosen. Dr. VV. F. Breakey, Dr. J. Kapp and Dr. O. George. Aid. Kearns moved that Dr. C. G. Dar linr be re-elected City Physician for the coming year. Adopted. Aid. Ware moved that the salnry of the City Pliysician be cominued at $100 per year. Carried. Aid. AllmendÍDger moved that Prof. J. B. Davis be re-elected City Engineer for the coming year. Adopted.
