ANN Abdok, May 1, ISSü. Is our lejfislation a fallure, or have our ofticiuls flunked out on the dog tax? I notlce every year about $100 or a trifle upwards, reported collected as dog tax. Now tlie tax is $1 per year for male and ?') for female dog9. There are at least 1,000 male aud 100 female dogs n the city of Aun Arbor, at a yery low estímate. Where is the balance of the dog tiix? Do the dogs evade the tax ? Have they boycotted the assessors, or have the supervisors weakened, and failed to report the dogs because they feared the owuers thereof might cast tlicir vote at the next election for aome ither fellow ? Or, perlah the thouglit, Mr, Editor, has ttie greater amount of the tax been collected and "knocked down?
