Sharp shocks of earthquake were xperienced on the 22d at Charleston, Summerville, Columbio, Savannah, Wilmington, Raleigh, Augusta, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Louisville and other Southern points. Washington also feit the quake. Four shocks were feit at Charleston, while two or more disturbed the other cities mentioned, but no damage was repor$ed. Bismarck, the man arrested in San Francisco as an accomplice in the murder of Rev. George C. Haddock, at Sioux City, Ia., stated on the 20th that Arensdorf flred the fatal shot. MeMullen, formerly of Chicago, for advocating annexation to the United States. Gexeral Bacon Moxtoomert, who commanded the Sixth Missouri Cavalry during the war, accidentally shot and killed himself on the 19th whilo huuting in Mexico. Bevekai, volcanoes in tha Republic oí Ecuador were in a state of unusual activity on the l'Jth, causing much damage. The Southwestern States of the Ropublic of Mexico were on tne 19th said to be ripe for revolution and the overthrow of President Diaz. Prof. Wiaaiss, of Ottawa, was notlfied on the 20th by the authorities of tho Canadian Signal-Sorvice that he must quit issuing prophecies or resign his position. The wholesale drug-house of Elliott & Co., at Toronto, was burnod on the 20th, the loss being $100,000. Advices of the 20th from China say that the French had a fight with about two thousand pirates near Hoolac, Tonquin, in which more than five hundrJd Anamesa were killed. TnE sehooner John W. Monson, which sailed from Boston August 11, was on the 33d given up for lost. Charles Doty was her master, and she carried a crew of ten men. Mrs. Oliter Thomas, aged eighty-five years, of GranTille, O., was burned to death on the 23J, her clothos catching firo from a stove. Advices of the 23d say that the recent flre at Farmington, Me., destroyod thirtythree dwellings, nineteen stores and throe churches. The loss was estimated at $300,000. JtTDOE Prendeoast, of Chicago, on the 23d sent to jail for fifty days, for contempt of court, a clerk of election namod John T. Muilen, for being intoxicated while on duty registration day. Carter H. Harrisox, mayor of Chicago, was on the 23d nomiuated for Congress by the Democrats of the Third district. In the Seventeenth district of Ponnsylvania the Republicans nominated Edward Scull af tor balloting for six weeks. Secretart Bayard on the 231 received the formal resignation of B. S. Cox as Minister to Turkey. Earthquake shocks wore feit on the 231 in Athens, Greeco and Mobile, Ala. Advices of the 23d say that on the Crow reservation, in Montana, a party of flfty Sioux made an attack on a Crow camp, and the Sioux were drivon off with the loss of five warriors, who were promptly scalped. It was d8covered on the 23d that Hicklin Landers, book-keeper for Landers, Givin & Co., of Indianapolis, Ind., was $50,000 short In his accounts, and that Will. iam Holmgran, an employé of Shouds, Btony & Kasper, of Chicago, was a defaulter to the extent of $10,000. Both mon were supposed to be in Canada. At St. Louis on the 23d the world'a championship in base-hall was won by the St. Louis Browns, who defeated the Chioago league niue by 4 to 3. The six games played would net the champions about $14,000. Extensive forest fires were raging on the 24th near Great Barrington, N. H.. over twelve hundred acres having already been burned over. John McGowax and his wife were found dead in their bed at Syracuse, N. Y., on the 34th, thelr throats being cut from oar to ear. There was no clue to the tragody. An immense meteor burst over Atlanta, Ga., on the night of the 23d, mak ing a ter. rifle noise and brilliantly lighting up tha city for a few minutes.
