Altuough the public were led by preas noices to expect soniethinsr grander than usual, yet in what is given to the public o-day as '87's contribution to college literature, they had not formed any too exravagant ideas of what the book really is. l'lie frontispiece is a fine steel engraving of Judge Cooley, the flnest representation of this gentleman bv far ever given to the nibllc. The usual complement of secret ociety representation8 in steel will be bund, and the usual lista of members of college and semi-college societies. In addition to the contents of former Palladiu's will be found "A Short History of he University of Michigan," prepared by 'rof. Thomas. This paper is peculiarly appropriate to the semi-centennial year of he university which the publication celeirates. Then there is a specimen of medioeval Frenen entitled " Lothalrand Lyette. " Kosculation,1' a farcical comedy n one act, by Alfred Hennequin, occupies 16 pages, and is of more or less interst to the reader according to his ability o aparecíate that sort of literature. The grind" department Is not as pretentious s in former publications but is kept stricty withiu the bounds of propriety. To Uose aequainted with the persons and cirumstances there will be. considerable to mile over nevertheless. The book itself isa beautifully bound olume in white, blue and gold. lts pares are 7x9 in. in slze and 262 In nuiner.
