As a republlcan we ouglit to be glad of the action of the prohibition party for it shows in its true light the object of the leaders of that party- not so niuch the success of the ifreat reform needed, as of personal political nfforrandizeiiaeiit, honor and preferment. Thousands of rcpubhcans who have honestly espoused the cause of prohibition under the bannen of a party whose very name meant so much to thera will now return to their own party, perliaps somewhat disgusted at the deceit practiced upou tliem, and that they ciiii aid the cause they have soTnuch it heart, by a vote for the prohibitory amendinent, where all such questions should be, entirely outslde of party lines, ind at the same time return to the home bat has been so endeared by the associations of the past quarter of a centurv.-
