1 Tlicrc was a ipeclul meeting of the ! conncil on Monday night last. The Ke; corder not being present, Aid. Svvift was ' appointed Recorder pro tem. The Mayor 1 announceil the settling of mntters wttb ; the late city troasurer, Albert Sorg. 1 On motion of Aid. Wlnes the conncil 1 proceeded to the election of a troasurcr ' the ballots .standing: 1 ïHt. ad. John Moore 7 (i Mllo I'ulcipUer 1 2 L. Om ner l N.Hutheriand 1 L.l). Wlncs 1 L. Miioryn 1 10 10 The question of the elegibility of E. iJ. Gidley as patrolman was brought up by Aid. Ware as chairman of the pólice committcp, the printed rules for the government of the pólice forcé of the city specifying thnt no one under 21 or over 50 years of nge, was eügible lo the position of patrollinan, and a very lively and somewhat personal discussion aróse. A!d. Ware limilly moved that the pólice forcé of the city be reduced to the chief and one patrollinan and Mr. Gidley's services as patrollinan be dispensed witli, so that the amoiint oí hls salaiy miht be expended for atreet lights. Aid. V'ines moved that the motion lay upon the table which was lost by nn aye and n ay vote, 4 ayes and 7 nays. Aid. Allmendinger theu movi'd &a an amendmendment "thut Patrollman Gidley be removed from hls place because he has attempted to enforce ct'itiiin ordlnances, tlie%enforceincnt of which is obnoxious to 1 portion of thisbody. " Wliich was also lot. Aid. Allmendinger then offsred anothei ameiuluient that the services of Patrollinan Clark be also dispensed with. Wliich was lost. The original motion was then carried by an aye and nay vote, resultáis 7 ayes and 1 nays. The council then adjourned. It was probably one of the wildest meetings everseen in the coinuil chiiinber.
