Our political enemies llave oplnions thut are alw.-iys quite interestlng, and what tliey think of Mr. Blaine's actlon in withdrawing ia quite aa varied as it is in some instances amusing. Those wlio are so tcrribly fierce about Mr. BÜüne and liis schemes, will do well to remember tliat only a short time back In our history one Samuel J. Tilden wrote a similar letter, and the fact became apparent after a time ihut he was sincere, thougli it was not at the time so conceded by his political enemies, wlio were only too alad that he had written it, tor he was tho only ni:in in tlieir pirty at the time who stood any chance of being elected. History may and may not repeat itself in this instauce. Probate RegUter Km. O. Doty:-My drst lmfireHslon wita that Mr. Hlulne dld uot mean t. On secoud thoughtl belleve be does. and that iw far as he U persoaally concerned he l nu of the race to etay. Frank 1 tul uk he saw the hand. rrlllng on the wall. i Itegent Chat. R. WMtman :-ït Blalne la non;t In hls Btatement, he In Htandlng from ter. He aees Cleveland cannot be defeated. i íie has no less ambltlon now than he had 'our years ago to be president, and, 1Í he can I everget there.wlll. Blalne Is, above all, a polltician, and the shrewdest of tlium all. Probably he hopea by poslng as a martyr to arouse a seutlment whlcb may glve to hlm a unanlmous nomlnatlon. But it would be an empty honor. Cleveland' noble record In sures him re-electlon. No man con defeul hlm. County Clerk Hoxulttt :- Mr. Blalne acted wlsely In wlthdrawini; from the presldential race, as hecertalnly could be nomlnated at Chicago if he deslred ; and a second defeat he la too wise to oourt. Iludion T. Morton :- He Is slraply flshlug for the office, tlial's all. II. C. Clark .-There are two ways to look at that letter. One Is that Blalne has come to the conclusión that he can't carry New York and thercfor does not deslre to make the atterapt; another Is that he has taken thls courseto secure a unanirnous nomlnatlon. To say that he would n't accept a unanlinous nomlnatlon from hls party Is nonsensc 110 man living bul. would do that. A. Kearney: - The republicana havo been deprlved of thelr best candldate In the decllnatlon of Mr. Blalue, for I ani Inclined to belleve that he means Just what he says. Bx-Judge Joslyn :- That letter Is the greatest blesslug that could have happened to the republlcan party. Wlth Blalne as a leader sure defeat slared the party in the face. Sheriff WoA:- Have not read the letter and no opinión to glve. Capt. Chat. II. Manly :-l thlnk the letter Is eharacterlstic of the man. He sees that there aré a number of candidatos In the field, and does not care fora nomlnatlon lf It requlres any effort on the part of hls friends. I belleve lf he Bhould flnd hls party dlvlded and unable to make a cholee of the mauy asplranta, he would allow hls name to be used lf it would unlte all element. He Is by far the strongest inn In the republlcau party, and would créate more enthuslasm as a candidato than any other man In the party. ExMiyor Kapp:-l don't know what to thlnk about that letter. It Is eltlier a shrewd move on Blalne's part ora sincere and tlnn wltlidruwal from the canvas, and 1 am lncllned to thlnk it Is the latter. It is the proper thing, of course, for democrats to be severe in glvlng thelr oplnlons of Mr. Blalne but I teil you there are many qualltles In that man thnt I admire. Postmaeter Duffy :- My Impression Is that lf Blaine does not accept the nomlnatlon he whs1hfhave'lteXerCl8e Ule rlK"tOf 8"yl"g Vounty Treasurer Beller .¦- I haven't much of an opinión upon the matter. "í"uib Regiiter of Deed Kearns-.-lt the republlBa"neaD Dy maD' Uley Oan elect Judge narriman:-! thlnk Blalne's letter was wrltten to encourage hts frleuds that he can beelected; but that he is not pushlng hls cía ms i In a public way, I thlnk further that hels theonfy man In the republlcan rauks who can arouse a partiële of enthuslasm, or whom they have a ghost of a show of electD Oamer:-That letter slr, I thlnk was wrltten in good falth, and he does not intend becomlng a candldate. Of course lf he should recelve a unaulmous nomlnatlon by hls party he would accept. A.ny man would do LU&b. C 1 i . „ i . i i ¦ i., .suoic.-- nr. mame has made a shrewd move In that letter.
