The gentleman wliose name heads this article died at his resklence on West Huron 8t. u this city im Saturdav eveuing last in the 79tli year of his age, after a liiifjering Illnets, Mr. Jewett was probably one of the best known residen tu as well as one of the olilest pioneers and most esteemed citizens of Ann Arbor. He canie to tuis city as far back as 1836, engaging In the rnercantile business wliich he carried on for man; ycars, being for a considerable time thn leadinpr merehant of the city and county, but retirinj; theiefrom some time since. Jeweit & Co. Mr. Jewett wa born in Dunham, Conn., August 9th, 1809. He leaves four children to mourn his loss, Mrs. Hyde and Mis. Judjfe Klnne ot' this city, Mrs. Paul of Montreal, and Mrs. Sinith of Detroit. The funeral services are being beid tliis p. m froin the family residence and conducted by Rev. Mr. Miller. The deceased had been a constant attendant upoi the Presbyterian cliurch since its establishment here.
