A specinl meeting of the counct! was held Monday evening, with the fnll board present. Of John J. Robison, respectinjf the grade ot N. Main st., and reciting former uctlon of the council. On motlon of Aid. Allmendinger it was referred to the General Street Committee wlth power to act; which means that it will be accoraplished. Aid. Sutherland, from Oeneral Street Comraittee reported in referenee to the side track of the T. A. A. & N. M. R. R. across Washington st., the switch to be on the compan y's land, and recommended that the petition be granted on condition that the eompany properly plank sidewulks and maintnin roadway. On motion of Aid. Allmendinger report accepted and adnpted. Aid. Ware from the Pólice Committee reported the mimes of several men for patrolmen, and recommended that one or two ulditioiNil i)olicemon be added to the foice. The names reported were lllchnej Clark, James B. Miirray, Clarence Tice, A. Hoore, Martin Noli, Albert Pierco, John Btoll, and recommended that the lirst two names be selected for patrolmen. Aid. Allmendinger opposed putting: on a n an additional man on the ground of extravatance, unii because the council die] not have the money to pay for H. Aid. Wines believedthat tlngyear there was need of an extra force.and he thought perhaps the salary of one man could be saved in the dillerence between the $300 and $500 liquor tax licenses. Aid. Allmendinger moved as a substitute for the report of the committee that only oue policeman beappointed. Aids. Ware and Wines bolh fought vigorously for the report of the committee, and Aids. Allmendinger and Spokes against it. The ayes and nays beinL called for resulted: Ayes- Ahls. Sutherland. Allmendinger, Martin, Kearns, Spokes, Hammond, Barker and the Mayor. - 8. Nays- Aids. ;Herz, ü'Mara, Mlller, Ware, Wiues, aud the Hecurdor.- 6, Aid. Allmendinger reported favorably on the bond of Jas. H. Bach, recorder, with Chas. H. Hichmond and E. B. Abel as sureties, and the constable honds of John Ryan with Pat riek Ryan and Wm. J. Clark; Paul Schuil with David Rinsey tod John Kapp; Tlios. II. Oodkin wlth Erastus P. Mason and Edward Corcoran, sureties, and the same were ipproved. On motion of Aid. Allmendinger, the Recorder was authorized to use any room n the city hall for storing paper#. Aid. Allmendinger moved that Mrs. Evans be allowed the customary $0 per month during the year. Carried. Aid. Whicli ws carried, and Aids. Sutherand, Millcrand Allmendingerappointed. The mayor annotineed that he had appointed Aid. Allmendiniïer as chairman of the Sidewalk Committee, and Aid. Kenrns on the Finance Committee in place of Aid. Allmendiiiger resigned. Alil. Spokcs brought up the matter of he drain from the gas house golng into the creck on Depot st., and on motion of Aid. Allinen(linrer the same was referred to the General Street Committee. Aid. Allmendinger moved that the matter of the fire liinits on State street be referred to the city attorney to report at a special meeting of the council to be held on Wednesday evening. The Recorder moved that the bonds to be siven by the liquor dealers be tlxed at $3,000. Carried.
