The iunmediate cause of death vvai rheumatism of the heart, though he hm heen ailing for a long time with Brlght' disease, and death wus not wholly unlook ed for by hls friemis. But st 11 death i an enemv we are never prepared tomeet no matter liow inuch we may iiave beet forewurned of hls approach, and tuis wa no exception to the general rule. Mr. Bower had lived in tuis communi ty as boy and man, and was well known to nearly every resident of the city. He was one who had his fanlts, but he also had his rirtue8, he was honest and up right in all his dealings with his fellow men, and never forgot his manhood in tht respect. At times brilliant as a journ alist, he was at times erratic aUo. As a news gatherer he had few equals in the state, and made his paper popular t; chronleling in brief paragraphs every thing that happened in the vicinity. He was a strong friend to his friends an just as strong a hater to those he disliked In those he liked he muid see nothing wrong, in those he hated but little good In his paper he punctured whatever he believed to be wrong no matter who i hit, frlend or foe. For his good qualities he ii.-ul ui iny friends, for his misfortunes he had the regreta of the entire community. He lias paid the penalty deatl exacta of us all; muy his ashes rest in peace. Mr. Bower was born at Manchester Michigan, on April 2Oth, 1845, being 4! years of age. He leaves a widow to mourn his loss. He was the oldest son of the late Henry Bower and ol' Mrs. Margaret Bower now a resident of N. Ingalls-st., wueri his rriirĂ¼iis were taken, and where the funeral services are being held this p. m., Hev. Dr. Earp oflkiating. IJ. Frank Bower of the Evening Journal editoiia start" Is a brother f the deceased, anc Miss Kinma and Miss Maggie Bower are his sisters. The Democrat, we understaml will be conducted by Miss Emilia Bower, who has in fact had the management of it for several months. Some beautiful fiowers have been sent froni Detroit by friends of the family, and the preas of this city have joined in a floral design repreaenting tle first page of the Democrat with inverted columu rules, a piece eutiiely new in design. The pall bearers consist of E. J. Morton, J. E. Beul, H. M. Holmes, Fred J. Howlett, L. J. Liesemer, and Geo II. Pond.
