And yet thatharsh word left a trace The kind word could not qutt efface, And thongh the heart ltB love regalaed, It bore a scar that long remalued. Friends could forglve, uut not iorgut, ur loge the enge ol keen regret. oh, If we could but learn to k now How swlft and sure our wordtt can ko, How would we welgh witli utmost care Kach thought before It ttought the air, Aud only speak the word that move l.lke white wluged uiesiicugers ol love !
