Herbie Hancock
Man-Child, Columbia
Ok, Hang Up Your Hang Ups has a catchy bass honk and there's enough of a horn arrangement on Sun Touch to remind one of what Herbie was capable of on albums like Speak Like A Child. However, the bulk of Man-Child is formula slush. Let me hasten to add that I loved and love Head Hunters; it's just that the second carbon seems pretty pale. There's almost no solo improvising here, and when there is, it's uninspired and nearly inaudible. Where did all the feeling go?
