Our city (Cinojnnatí) is níested with kidnappers. Tiereare villians now prow ling in our streets, who are keener than bloodhounds on the track ofa negro. Last Wednesday, about noon, six men ormed with bowie knives, &c. rudely en tered the dweiling of Mr C. Burneit in pursuit, as they said, of a fugitive slave There was no slavo thero. The only per on at homo was Mra Burnett an old lady the rest of the faraüy being absent in the country. The ruffians flourished their weapons Valorously n Iheprescnce of this defenceless woman, and whcn she atierapted to ro treattoa neighbor's resiJenco, threateüed her with insífint dealh ifsheslirred a 8tep, From bottom to top did they search the house, tossing beds on the floor, and catterintr ciothes and furniturc, in sheer epite. Thcy pretended ío hnve a search warrant from Esq. Dot}', hui ibis gentleman declares that he had issued none for any such purpose. Finding notliing;, they attemptod to enter the house of Dr. Miles, a fewrods off, but wero prevented by the resolute benringofhis wife. They thea abcut two o'clock visited iho residence of Mr. Alley, in the ceutra! part of the city, and made their entry in the same violent nianner5brandishihg their weapon3, and indulging in the kindof abuse peculiar to their craft. Mrs. Aücy (a widow,) and her daughter, mlh a colored serva nt gírl, and a colored woman who vvas lying sick with the measles, were the only persons on the premisos. - ihe women wero eíTectually frightened by the kidnappers, who, then proceeded to Bearch the house. The sick colored wo man, who had not Ieft her bed for lvo days, aad was moreover enciente, (seven months gone.) hearing the tuniuk below sprang from her bed in great fright but wasseized by one of the men who claimed her as his slave. This we ícnow to be false, and we fu-rther know, that they were ia search of another person. But, they wers determined to have somebody atallevents.A carriego was mmediatsly procured;8he was thrust intoit; and tho driver rattled off regard lesa of her siiuation, never stopping till the river was reached, when she was forced into a boat, carried across the river, and locked up in the jail ofCoviogton. One of the gang insisted on havingher i.mmured in a cel!, but the jailor's wife, perceiving her coudition, (for the savagetreatmentshe had e.xperienced had brought on permature labor,) ctv.jsed her to be coaveyed to an apartment in the house andpaid. ber every attention. In a few minutes after her arrival she was delivered of a stijl bom babe. The vülians had murdered her infant. This was not all. Her exposure had causeda recession of the rooasels aud it was with difficulty her life was saved. Öhe is still in a critical state. This thing was done in broad dfiylight, in a city which boasts of its high civilization! Do we live in a land of law? Is this a sovereign State? Are we a christian people? Are we bona fide flesh and blood? Have we hearts? Is thero justice among us? Are we men or devils? We are amazed, stupified, stunned. If God does not visit us with his liery indignation,. it will be because his mercy never faileth, Will the newspapers of our city notice this hellish transaclion ? Several casea we have detaijed lately, but the pressdoes not think it of moment enough to have justice secured to the weakest.- Will they nocice this case, we ask; or shatl we have a coatemptible apo'.ogy for a set of wretches whose souls have long sinc6 been eaten out by the worm of Avance % Since wruing the foregoins, one of the persons implicated in the trañ.-action haa
