Notten, 78, weU-known cattle
^der, died this morning at St.
Arbor. He had suffered a stroke at
l— home, 139 E. Summit St., late
evening, but had been in de-
.....ing health for the last three
years.
A member of the American Jer-
sey Cattle Club and the Michigan
Jersey Cattle Club, Mr. Notten hart
won numerous prizes at various
cattle shows with his entries.
He also had received a plaque
from Michigan State College for
his meritorious work in breeding
and other agricultural work.
In Farm Groups
Besides the cattle clubs, Mr. Not-
ten also was a member of the
Michigan State Grange, the Cav-
anaugh Lake Grange, the Pomona
Grange, the Western Washtenaw
Farmers Club, the Washtenaw
County Brotherhood, and the Sa"
lem Grove Methodist Church.
Mr. Notten was born June 4,
1870 on the Ehlert Notten home-
stead, the oldest, of three children
born to Wills?1 m and Caroline
Hartz Notten. He was married to
Bertha Kalmbach on Dec. 6, 1901.
For many years the couple lived
the old Fred Notten farm on
,:-, often Rd. They moved to Chel-
sea in April of 1943.
Surviving besides his wife are a
daughter, Mrs. L. R. Heydlauff of
Chelsea; a brother, Ehlert J. Not-
ten of Chelsea; a sister, Mrs. B. C-
Whitaker of Sylvan township; two
: randchildren; and several niec-p;
1 nephews.
Prayer services will be held af
the Miller Funeral Home at 2
o'clock Sunday afternoon. Funeral
services will follow at 2:30 in the
Salem Grove Methodist Church,

will be in the church cemetery.
