Jackson, Avgust 6, 1841. To the Exccutive Committec of the Mich. State A.S. Society: Your propositiona to print an edition of the addresses of the National and State Central Committces and acune other docu ments, in an extra sheet, nnd to furnish the "Signal" for three viouths for twentyfive cents" can not, it appear3 to me iiul of provoldng corresponding liberaliiy on the part of every true üiend of the slave and his couniry in Michigan. If every man in this state, who feels for tho enslaved, and who seea that the slave power hus subverted his own libertiea would promptly contribute no more than ono bushei of Wheat ($1 or 75 cents) by way of response, towanisthe above noble proposition on tho part of the Ex. Com. it would soon give a thrill of interest throughout our Poninsula, that would wake up our friends alarm our eneraie9, and teil wonders for our glonous cause, which I would fain trust in the God of the opprcssed willncver be abandoned till the slave and our country are redeemed or the struggle be given over in death. Though I have neither wheat nor com and do not feel very rich (having for aome time been exposed to raany outgoes without an ueomc,) vet I still have more than ihreo luillions ot'my fellow men ia this countcy, and herewiih cnclose jou on my own account $3 towards supplying this couníy with an ampie supply of the Addresses of the National and State Central commitiees. I hope, by the prompt liberalityofour frienda in this county, that at least 500 of the extras will immediately be ordered. If our friends feit ablo to furnish a copy for every family in this county Ishould like it still better, I feel confident that such of our friends as can possibly contribute a few dollars, or evena few shillings or pennies for this object will never have cause to regret it. VVill not the the satisfaction, orí reflection, oí the good it Aas done, and will do, amply repay the amount with interest. Who would not have a liltle stock in the People's Libekty Bank 1" which is ,soou 1 trust to be chartered by a vote so overwhelming as shall exempt it from an Executive veto? How greatly it would encourage my heart could I see in the columns of the "Signal" not only constant orders for large quantities of the Extra No. of the "Signal," from every 'part of the State, but hundreds and hundreds of new subscribers on tbree month's twenty five cents plan, [if for no longer time.] Will not each and every man, engaged in the common struggle for his own and thepoorslavo's liberty, at once set about the business in good earnest to see what can soon be ac complished . I am rejoiced to learn that gooá fündsat a pretty fair price are again being paid { out through the state for wheat. A stnall portion of this I enn not doubt, will be ! prompfly sent to the "Signal" as it can at any time be done 0-postace free..LQ The extras might be directed to the subscribers of the "Signal" for gratuitous distribution or be called for at the office of the "Signal," as shouldbe deemed best by those who should order them. Should the number of 500 or more be ordered Trom this county [which I trust there will be] to save our fnends Postuge it would seem best tocall for them ut the office of the "Signal." But relativo to this and other mattersyou willsoon hearfrom me ag.in. . We aro Iruly rejoiced here to seo that j our friends are moving in the right direcion for the port of liberty, in Washtenaw, Wayne, Oaklund, Livingston, Kalamazoo, Eiton, and Ingham &.c. VVe aro expecl ng every "Signal" to see that Ihey are also on iho move in Calhoun, and Lenawee and in some other counties. Tliero are a number of couuties in this slate, which I huvo not nfuned, as expecting any thingfrom them on this subject , yet, not becauso tho natural soil miy not be most excellent but rather for the obvious reason that no aoed has been sown, and toasequently no, hnrvest should be looked Tor. As we soiv, so shall we roap in this, and in every of her good cause. Did I feel afjle lunger to devote my time raluitously (Deo volente) I should most assuredly be in my element to scutler ihe sced of liberty "broad casi" mneng the independent y eornanry in every town. echoul district and ucighborhood in ihe State - ihe stuit;, ignorant, prejudiced and pnrüzun cry of "fanu'ic," "nigger,1' and "ümulgama tion" to the contrary notw ithstanding. All such unkind and opprobriou9 epithclB on- y prompt the true friend3 of liberty who have tho "root of the matter in them," to more vigorous action. It leads thom so tnuch the more to see and feel lbo need of it. Wily pro-slavery politiebus know very well huw to aim theirshafts at the arm whonce proceedá the heaviest blows ol truih, at their most vulnerable spots. 13ut let us novor trust in ribaldry, und low abuse, but in truih, and the gud ok truth A?fD KIGHTEOUS LIHKRTY.P. S. - We sliall hold our Senatorial couveiilion in this District ut the samo timo our frienris may iix upon fur iha state cunv&ntion which 1 trust vviil be soon. 1 have just lcarned from our friends in Kalanuzoo Co. ihat they ore in favor of a state convcniion to be held at Kulanmzoo, if practicable, on the 24th. I am cxpocting cominuntcutioiis from olhor scctions of tho statn, evcry muil, and in the mean lime sliall correspond with tho other members of the centrul commi toe and trust thatas soon asnc.it week we shuil be able to mako fiuch appointntents as may meet the wishes ot our frionds and the interest of the cause. It is weli I think lor the commiltee to delay a liltle ltngcr toobiain if possible a fair expression from our friends, that suitable appointment and arrangements may be made accordingly.
