At the time our paper goes to press returns have come in from several counties, al! of wbich have given a Democratie majority Washtenaw, Jackson and Wayne are ofthenumber. It is generally conceded that there will be a Democratie majority in the State. Washtenaw and Jackson gave last year a joint whig majority of eight or ninehundred. We cannot publish the particulars till nextweek. The Liberty votes as far as heard from are reported as folio ws: Ann Arbor, 50; last year, 21. Scio. 20; 8. Salem, 03; Webster, 13: " none. Ypsilanli, 20; Bylvac, 30; Northfield, 4; Pittsfield, 22; Last ycar, Washtenaw gave 5G votea for Birney; this year, one toton givea 63. See how abolition is "dying away." Detroit, (city) 40;fl'Our friend L. H. Jones writes from Grass Lake, Jackson county; "The Liberty ticket has gained 825 per cent since last fall ; then tour votes were given, doiv we have actually polled 33, besides which about four tried rienda of Liberty were necessarily abeent.' Grass Lake, last year, gave 80 Whig xnajority; (bis ycar 2 Democratie. flCThe following is an extract of a letter from our estcemed fellow laborer, S. B. Treadioell, dated: Jackson, Monday evening, Ocl. 1, 1841. "I have attended the polls to day pleadingaswellas I could ihe causo of the poor slave, and my beloved hut deluded country, i once thought I could never be induced to altend the polls longer than was necessary to deposite rr.y ballot. - This was when party and pecuniary matters alone made up the issue. But the combinod claims of liberty, humanity, and my country, have proved entirely irresist able to my former inciinations for reïirement from the usual noiso and excitement on the days of election. More liborty votes have been polled here to day than i had anticipated. I shall be diaappointed if this (own does not give as raany libfirty votes this fall as the county did last fall. ButIctlhÍ3 be as it may,my motto is still onward lili the slave and my country are free,or till I amcalled to render up my final account."
