Realtors name Cornell 1983 realtor of the year

Peter M. Cornell has been named 1983 Realtor of the year, the Ann Arbor Board of Realtors has announced.

The award is given annually to the member who best exemplifies service in the interests of the profession, clients and customers, and the community, a board statement said.

Cornell was Realtor president last year and vice president in 1981. He had served a two-year term in 1973-74 as a director and corporate secretary of the board. While vice president of the Ann Arbor board, he also served as a director of the Ypsilanti Board of Realtors - the first time any local Realtor had represented both groups simultaneously.

Cornell is one of only two Michigan Realtors certified by the National Association of Realtors as a professional standards instructor. He also serves as chairman of the state association’s Professional Standards Committee.

Cornell served as the Ann Arbor board’s liaison representative working with the county on the “creative financing” tax case.

He was elected a director of the Michigan Graduate “M” Club for the 1983-86 term and coaches in the Junior Wolverine Football program.

Cornell entered real estate in 1969 as a sales associate with the former Hobbs, Spaly and Company. In 1971 he helped form the Cornell-Morris Co., which was changed to Cornell and Associates two years ago. Last October he closed his company and joined the Ann Arbor office of Old Town Realty, where he is still associated.
