- 1 From our acquaintnnce with the "Matssachuetts School Library," we hesitate not in pronouncing it decidedly superior lo Btiy work with which we are familiar 'or district and town libraries fur lyceums and kindred aesociations. We eincerely. desire its general circulation through the State as the knowledgo therein contained cannot fail to instruct, amuse, and improve all classes of community. It can be purchased of Mr. J. Lamb of our village. Those who feel disposed to obtain the library will find them3elves amply remune-, rated in the richness and variety of its contents.I have lately received letters frorn different paris of the state, 11 requestingme,' as Superintendent of Public Instruction, to recommend a list of books 6uitable for district and town libraries an for lyceums nnd similar associations. A3 this department has no legally anthorized orgnn of communication with school offioers and other persons interested in education, I take this mode of saying lp all concerned that I am familiar with no work so euitable for such purposes as tbose constituting the large series of the Massachusetts Schooi Library, and, inasmuch the young as well as the old should have good books to read in thcir leisure hours, the juvéhile series ahould properlv g with the larger one. J . F. SAWYER, Jr. Supt.Pub. lnst. Office of Superin'endent Public Instruc-; tion, Aon Arboi, Fcb. 21st, 1841. This library wns highly recommended by the ILm.Jedse Öuèt of Albany, N. Y. ; To use hisown words: "It contains professional books for the farmer, the mechanic, and even the housewife; books that will instruct them in their several employments; that will aiford insiruction to thegreat business classes of the country." Will the editors throughout the state; copy the ubovealong with Mr. Sawyer's notice and oblige their friend. JONATHAN LAMB
