Kappler, Martin J.

Age 93, passed away yesterday afternoon at his home after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 4, 1874 in Sharon Township, a son of Martin J. and Katherine Barkirchen Kappler. He was an Ann Arbor resident all his life. In 1899 he married Rena M. Rogers in Hamburg. She died July 24, 1934. On Feb. 6, 1935, he married Lula Mabel Brough, and she survives. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Ann Arbor Masonic Lodge No. 544. For 45 years he was a freight agent for the Ann Arbor Railroad and the New York Central Railroad, and later a custodian at Stone School. Surviving in addition to his wife are three foster children, Mrs. Howard Remnant of Ann Arbor, Harry and Wilson Rogers, both of Calif., three nieces, Mrs. Clara Becker of Seal Beach, Calif., Mrs. Ray Wurster and Mrs. Fred Reule, both of Ann Arbor, two nephews, Carl Hertter of Saline and William J. Kappler of Brooklyn. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Muehlig Funeral Chapel with the Rev. L. Burlin Main officiating. Burial will be made in the Hamburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel.
